Peter Harrap is the co-curator of Constable 250. He has selected the artworks with Emma Roodhouse for the ‘Constable Walking the Landscape ‘ exhibition, in which many of Constable’s major works and irresistible plein air sketches will be exhibited. Peter Harrap’s own artwork will hang alongside as a meditation on Constable’s walks around East Bergholt, the Dedham Vale and the Stour.
Constable’s charming scene will be making its way to Suffolk for the first time!
2026 will mark the 250th birthday of Suffolk born artist, John Constable, and to celebrate we’re sending his iconic masterpiece, ‘The Hay Wain’, on its first ever visit to the county it depicts. Despite being synonymous with the Suffolk countryside, ‘The Hay Wain’ was actually painted in Constable’s London studio.
To commemorate Constable’s life and work, Colchester Museums and Ipswich Museums will present Constable 250, a celebration culminating in three landmark exhibitions, featuring major loans from across the UK.
